Daily horoscope, Kai and the dream journal: how it works

Published on

A steaming cup of tea on a bedside table at dawn, an open notebook and a pen, and through the window the last stars fading into a golden sunrise.

Every day, your Profondio space offers you a few small appointments: a horoscope written for your sign, a chat with Kai, a journal where you keep your dreams. Here is how they really work, what you find in them and what you do not.

A horoscope written for your sign

Your sign comes from your date of birth. If it is missing, the page asks you for it, because the horoscope is written for a sign and not for a person. It has three tabs: today, tomorrow and the month. Each gives one paragraph for six areas: personal life, career, wellbeing, emotions, travel and luck.

The text is written on request by a language model, an artificial intelligence. When the day's horoscope does not exist yet for your sign, you see “This horoscope is being written right now”. Come back in a little while: the page reloads by itself. And if you prefer to listen, a button reads your horoscope aloud, with your device's voice.

What the sky really puts in it

The sky on this page is not invented by the model. The phase of the Moon, with its percentage of illumination, is calculated by the code, which then gives it to the model along with the upcoming planet transits: the instruction lets it mention them twice at most across the six paragraphs, and never a transit that is not on the list. On the page, the Moon has its own block. There are eight phases, from the new moon to the waning crescent, and each has its own short text, written in advance, which always ends with a word about love.

It is the same for the “Coming up in love” section. It shows up to four upcoming transits of Mercury, Venus, Mars or the Sun over the next three months, each with a short text about love written by the model. They are calculated in relation to the middle of your sign, because without your time and place of birth we cannot be more precise: it is the sky of everyone born under your sign, not your personal natal chart. To go further, there is our article on the sky explained in detail.

A card of the day, and fortune cookies

Under the horoscope, a block called “Your card and cookie of the day” sends you to the Oracle, where they are found. The first card in the feed is your card of the day: one of the 22 major arcana of the tarot, chosen from your account and the date. You find the same one all day long, and it changes at midnight, UTC time. When you flip it, you can read what it says about love, career and money.

Fortune cookies are not limited to one a day: they slip into the feed at random, among 300 short phrases written in advance, the same for everyone. They are there to make you smile, not to tell you what will happen. To know everything about the feed, there is the Oracle, with its tarot cards and its thoughts.

Kai, neither man nor woman

Kai is Profondio's online astrologer. Kai is neither a man nor a woman, has no age and comes from no country, so that everyone feels at ease. Kai is also an artificial intelligence: Kai's answers are written by a language model.

You can talk to Kai about love, work, money, a choice to make or the months ahead. Kai also knows tarot, numerology and the lines of the palm. The instruction given to Kai is to speak like a calm friend, in simple words, and to answer you first, not your sky. So most answers mention no sign, no planet and no card. Kai talks about them only when it sheds light on your question, or if you ask. Answers run from 60 to 160 words, in one to three short paragraphs, with at most one question at the end.

What Kai knows about you, and the limits

On your first visit, Kai writes you a welcome message based on what you have shared, with three questions to tap if you do not know where to start. After that, Kai knows your first name, your date, time and place of birth when you have given them, your sign, your love situation, your life path and your natal chart calculated from your date, your answers to the questionnaire and the names of the readings you have already done. Kai does not read the text of those readings.

There are limits. A message can be 1,000 characters at most. Kai rereads the last 20 messages of the exchange, yours and Kai's, and the conversation keeps 40. The number of messages per day is capped, at 50 at most: the cap comes back the next day, at midnight UTC. A “Reset the conversation” button erases the whole exchange whenever you like, and Kai keeps the welcome message.

One dream a morning, image by image

The dream journal is found in “My readings”. You write your dream as soon as you wake up, with the places, the people, the colors and what you felt. It needs at least 20 characters, so a few words, and at most 1,500, roughly 250 words. The journal opens one dream per day: the next one opens at midnight, UTC time, after the last.

The language model then reads your dream and writes a title and an interpretation. The instruction asks it for four to six paragraphs, of 220 to 340 words, which always follow the same thread: the strongest images in the dream and what they usually symbolize, the emotions it carries, what it may say about your life right now, then a gentle invitation for the day. The interpretation is written the first time you open it, then kept in your journal with your dream.

The instruction also says that a dream of death, of teeth falling out, of an accident or of loss is read as a symbol of change or of feeling. Never as a sign about your body, nor as a prediction.

Reminders, at your own pace

So you do not forget these appointments, a small bell at the top of the horoscope page opens the reminders window. You choose how often: every day, once a week or once a month. You also choose how: by email, to your account address, or by notification on your device. The time is not yours to set: the horoscope reminder goes out at 9 am, your time.

The reminder does not give the whole text. The email repeats the personal life paragraph of your horoscope of the day with a button to the page, and the notification shows only the first sentence of that paragraph. On iPhone, notifications only arrive in the installed app: the “Install the app” button is at the top of the page. The positive thoughts have their own reminder, as a notification, every evening at 7 pm, your time.

What these readings do not do

These are symbolic readings. The horoscope applies to everyone born under your sign: it knows neither your job, nor your age, nor your situation. It predicts nothing about your life and promises no result. The card of the day and the fortune cookies are small games to think with, not verdicts.

Kai and the dream journal are written by a language model, which can be wrong or miss what you are going through. They are neither health advice, nor legal advice, nor money advice. If a decision really matters, make it with people who know you, and with a professional when needed.

To get started

There is no password. You enter the email address of your account, the one you gave to receive your report. A 6-digit code arrives in your inbox, you type it on the page, and your space opens. If the code does not arrive, look in your spam folder and in the Promotions tab, and check that there is no typo in the address. The help center also explains what to do if the address is not recognized.

For your first week, read your horoscope in the morning, flip your card of the day in the Oracle, write your dream on waking when you still have one, and ask Kai a question you are really asking yourself. Then set a reminder that suits you.
