Palm reading by photo: how to photograph your palm properly

Published on

An open palm lit by candlelight in front of a starry sky, the fine lines of the hand glowing softly in gold.

A photo of your palm, a few questions, and a reading written from what your lines show. Here is how to take the photo well, what you find in the reading and what we deliberately forbid it from writing. These are symbolic readings, to be read for pleasure and for reflection.

The questions before the photo

Before you photograph your hand, you give your first name, your gender and your date of birth, then you answer four questions. Your love situation: single, in a relationship, engaged or married, recently out of a relationship, or “it's complicated”. What matters most to you right now: love and relationships, energy and vitality, or career and destiny. The element that resembles you: fire, water, earth or air. And your favourite colour, out of six.

These answers are used to choose what the reading highlights. They never replace what your hand shows: the instruction given to the writing is to use them to decide what to put forward, not to invent what the photo does not show.

Photographing your palm, step by step

The page shows you a correct example and incorrect examples, simple drawings, and gives you three tips. Use your dominant hand, palm facing the lens, fingers slightly spread. Look for clear light, with no shadow on the lines: near a window, in daytime, is often the simplest. Put the whole palm in the frame, seen from the front, not from the side.

You can take the photo with the camera on your phone or computer, or choose a file you have already saved. Before it is sent, the page reduces your photo to 1,600 pixels at most and converts it to JPEG, whatever the format on your device. You see it first, then you confirm it or take another one. If your browser has no access to the camera, the page tells you so and offers to let you allow it or to choose a file instead.

What happens when you send the photo

As soon as it is sent, an artificial intelligence model looks at your photo to check that it really shows the inside of a hand: palm towards the device, a large part of the palm in the frame, lines visible enough to be read. If not, the page tells you it could not find your palm and lets you take another one.

The reading is written a little later, from your photo and your answers, and the photo is checked a second time at that point. It describes what it really sees: the length, depth, curve and breaks of the lines, the shape of the hand and fingers, the look of the skin. When a line is faint or hidden, the instruction is to say so simply and to read what can be seen.

The five lines, and where to find them

The reading has ten sections. The first five are your lines: heart, head, life, fate and marriage. Each one begins with a sentence saying what your hand shows, for example “your head line is long and straight”, then a paragraph of reading, what strength this line gives you, and where you can grow.

Each line also tells you where to look on your palm. The heart line starts at the edge of the hand, under the little finger, and runs towards the index or middle finger. The head line crosses the middle, just below. The life line starts between the thumb and the index and curves down around the base of the thumb. The fate line rises from the wrist towards the middle finger, and is sometimes faint or absent. The marriage lines are the small horizontal marks on the edge of the hand.

Some sections add a paragraph. Heart and marriage each add one about love, adjusted to your situation and presented as a tendency. Fate speaks about your relationship with money. Marriage tells what place children may take in your life.

The shape of the hand, the mounts and the fingers

The other five sections are your element, your mounts, your fingers, the texture of your palm and your palm as a whole. First the element: it is that of your sign when your date of birth is known, otherwise the one you feel closest to. If you are curious about your birth sky, you can also read our article on the sky in detail.

The mounts are the small swellings at the base of the fingers: Venus under the thumb, Jupiter under the index, Mercury under the little finger. The reading says which one seems fullest to you, or whether they are balanced, and what that adds about your warmth, your confidence and the way you reach out to others. The fingers are read by their length compared with the palm and by the shape of the thumb. The texture looks at the grain of your skin, firm and springy or soft and smooth. The last section reads your lines together, at a single glance.

What happens to your photo

Your photo is kept with no retouching, at the reduced size at which it was sent, and shown at the top of your reading. It is kept as long as your account exists, and it is erased with it when you delete your account, from the “Delete my account” page.

The same principle applies to the eye: a photo, a few questions, a reading. If that intrigues you, you will find all the detail in the article on the iris reading.

What the reading does not do

It does not predict your future. Your life line does not measure the length of your life: the writing instruction forbids writing that. It reads your energy, what sets you in motion and what can tire you.

It promises no sum of money, no gain and no loss. For children, it speaks of a tendency, never of a number, a sex or a certainty, and never of an absence of children. When the fate line is faint or absent, it sees a path you build yourself, not a lack. It is a symbolic reading, in the tradition of palmistry, written by an artificial intelligence model. It does not replace professional advice, it does not decide for you, and it does not replace a conversation with someone who knows you.

Getting started

Allow about two minutes, photo included. Choose a moment in daylight, settle near a window, open your dominant hand and take your photo. Your reading is then prepared, and an email lets you know when it is ready.

Whenever you like, you can have your palm read. And if you are hesitating between this reading and another, the article which reading to choose helps you find your way.
